Nintendo Wii - Can it make you Healthier?

By D Grammer

When video games were first introduced into our culture, they quickly gained in popularity and it was clear they were here for a long time. Video Games have always offered many options to the players. Things such as virtual escapes, and the ability to try a lot of different things are some of the features. High speed racing, adventure treasure hunts, war battles, and much more are just a few of the experiences you can have in the comfort of your home.

But with these nice game systems, players were never leaving the couch.

While there is the benefit of the hand-eye coordination, that is pretty much where any health benefits from video games stop.

Which has doctors and players are both interested in the Nintendo Wii.

Unlike the other gaming systems, the Nintendo Wii has motion-sensor controllers. With the wide variety of games designed around virtual sports, the Wii may have the ability to offer a gaming an exercise experience in one.

Many games on the Nintendo Wii use the motion controls of the Wii controller. Players must actually interact with the game by literally performing the moves they want to complete. For example, in a normal game of baseball you would hit a button to make the player swing. But with the Wii, you actually swing the controller as if you were swinging a bat.

As a result, you have both a physical and mentally challenging gaming experience.

While it is true that the Wii will probably not provide quite the same caliber of workout as a focused cardiovascular program, it is a great option for gamers who are used to spending all their time on the couch. Some of the best games to get the most benefit from a Wii playing session are from the Wii's sports package. This includes games like tennis, boxing, golf, and baseball, all of which require extensive player movement in order to compete successfully.

Needless to say, the Nintendo Wii's innovative design offers an entirely new kind of gaming experience, one to please coach potatoes and doctors alike. - 15275
